Seiches and seiche-related phenomena have been observed on lakes, reservoirs , swimming pools, bays, harbours and seas. The key requirement for formation of a seiche is that the body of water be at least partially bounded, allowing the formation of the standing wave.

Astro n. Nature — These two experiments are useful in considering a trade-off between calculation speed and model accuracy. Energy losses occur due mainly to turbulence in the water and, to a smaller extent, to the effects of viscosity.
The latter effect occurs only while the waves move more slowly than the wind. The first wave motion to develop is relatively regular, consisting of small, uniformly developed waves called capillary waves.
